Meet Flip Phillips: His Family, Work and Experience
Flip Phillips is a lifelong Mississippian. He was born here and he has lived his whole life here. For more than thirty years, Flip has been serving the people of Batesville, MS through his work as an attorney, a civic leader, a business leader, and a church leader.
Flip has been married to the former Vera Sue Mitchell for 44 years. Flip and Vera have three grown children and four grandchildren.
Flip is a life-long member of Batesville Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Trustee.
Flip served in the Mississippi National Guard as a member of the 108th Armored Calvary Regiment
Flip is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the University of Mississippi School of Law where he was as a member of the Mississippi Law Journal.
Flip is extremely active in economic development, serving as a Past President and Board member of the Panola County Industrial Development Foundation and, currently, as Attorney for the Panola Partnership.
Flip has been practicing law for the past 40 years with cases heard in every level of the state judicial system including numerous cases argued before the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Flip served as Assistant District Attorney early in his career.
Flip was a founding member of Smith, Phillips, Mitchell, Scott & Nowak Law Firm.
Flip serves as Batesville City Attorney and corporate counsel for Dunlap and Kyle Company and other Mississippi businesses.
Flip was a member of the Board of Directors of Dunlap and Kyle, Panola County Federal Savings and Loan Association, and New South Bank.
Smith Phillips represents First Security Bank, Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association, the South Panola School District, and the Desoto County Board of Supervisors, and serves as City Prosecutors for the City of Batesville.
